Back homeSeasonal radiator cleaning

Salt and de-icer after winter. Poplar fluff and insects by summer.

Radiators are the engine's primary defence against overheating and the heart of the climate system. After winter their fins are clogged with road salt and grit; spring adds poplar fluff and insects. Skip the cleaning and by July your engine starts overheating in traffic, and the AC barely cools.

Why clean

A clean stack means normal temperature and a working AC

The radiator dissipates heat that the coolant pulls from the engine. When the fins are blocked, airflow drops several times. The engine can't cool down in traffic — the cooling fan kicks in more often and works overtime. Meanwhile the AC condenser runs hot: refrigerant pressure rises and so does the load on the compressor — "not long until failure". A regular cleaning restores airflow, factory temperatures and the AC's intended operating range.

Why in spring

Winter grime hardens on the fins — by summer it means overheating

A Russian winter always ends the same way: salt, sand, de-icer and small stones clog the radiator fins and almost completely block airflow. Heat hardens the layer into a crust. By June poplar fluff joins, settling between the engine radiator and the AC condenser as a continuous "pad" — the cooling fan blows into nothing. The optimal time is late spring, before the heat peaks: clear out the winter grime and prep the stack for summer. Then again in autumn to remove fluff and insects before the cold.

What happens if you skip it

The cost of delay — a compressor, head gasket, fuel bills

Overheating in traffic

The temperature gauge climbs above normal at stops; in the worst case — head gasket repair from prolonged overheating.

AC compressor failure

An overheated condenser raises refrigerant pressure; hoses and connections start leaking, the compressor works under overload and eventually fails.

Weak cabin cooling

On a hot day the AC «can't keep up» — blows room-temperature air even on max.

Fan wear and fuel consumption

The electric fan kicks in more often and runs longer — engine bay noise rises, alternator load rises, fuel consumption rises.

Internal fin corrosion

Salt and de-icer eat the soft aluminium of the fins; over time the fins crumble and lose contact with the tubes.

Cabin odour

Insects and fluff rotting on the condenser are a common cause of the «old-car smell» when the AC kicks in.

What we clean

The whole stack — not just the main radiator

A modern car has a 2–5 layer «sandwich» of heat exchangers in the front. Cleaning only the first one is pointless — the dirt in the rear layers stays. We work with the entire stack.

Engine cooling radiator

The main one — responsible for the engine's working temperature.

AC condenser

Sits in front of the engine radiator and clogs first — all the road debris hits it.

Intercooler (turbocharged engines)

Cools the boost air before intake; a clogged intercooler kills turbo power.

Transmission cooler

ATF temperature 10 °C above spec drops gearbox lifespan dramatically — critical for premium models with large transmissions.

Power steering cooler

Where present — cleaned with the rest of the stack so the steering doesn't "thicken" in summer traffic.

How we work

Six steps from intake to handover

No heroics, no rushing. The bumper comes off completely — there's no way to reach the rear stack layers otherwise. Clips and fasteners are replaced as needed from our stock.

  1. 01

    Inspection and photo log

We take the car in and document the bumper, clips, hoses and radiator mounts before any work begins.

  2. 02

    Bumper removal

Front bumper, undertrays and headlights if needed come off. Each clip handled carefully; spares are kept in stock.

  3. 03

    Electrics protection

Connectors, relays, alternator and contact groups are wrapped in film. Protected from chemistry and water.

  4. 04

    Soak with specialist chemistry

We apply a professional foaming radiator cleaner across all stack layers. Let it dissolve the dirt — 10–15 minutes.

  5. 05

    Low-pressure rinse

Warm water under controlled pressure (NOT a Karcher!) so the fins don't bend. Each stack layer is rinsed back-to-front.

  6. 06

    Drying and reassembly

Compressed air clears residual moisture from the fins. Bumper back on, fan and AC checked. Final before/after photo report.

Why us

What sets our procedure apart

No Karcher

High pressure bends soft fins — they fold over, heat transfer only drops. We use adjustable low pressure.

Full stack disassembly

Bumper, undertrays, headlights if needed. The only way to actually rinse the back of the condenser and the intercooler.

Professional chemistry

Not «dish soap» but a dedicated foaming radiator cleaner with controlled pH — dissolves the dirt without attacking aluminium.

Clip replacement on approval

Clips on cars older than 3 years often crumble during disassembly. The replacement list is signed off before reassembly.

Photo and video log

Every step photographed. You can see exactly what came out of the fins — best motivation to repeat the procedure next year.

When to book

Once a year minimum. Twice is better.

The ideal schedule — late spring (after the poplar fluff) and late autumn (before the cold). If only once — choose spring, before the heat.

Signs it's time right now
  • The temperature gauge has started rising above normal in traffic
  • The AC barely cools on hot days, even on max
  • The cooling fan is audible more often, runs longer
  • The car is over 3 years old and this procedure has never been done
  • Crackling or rattling from the engine bay while driving
  • A musty smell when the AC kicks in
Warranty and timing

We take the job — we own the result

Timing

Standard procedure — 3–5 hours. Premium sedans with 4–5 heat exchangers — up to 7 hours. Exact estimate at intake.

Pricing

From 8,000 ₽ for a clean job. Final cost depends on the model and the state of clips/fasteners. Quoted before work starts.

Warranty

We guarantee leak-free reassembly with no missed steps. Notice anything after handover — bring it back, we sort it free.
