Its factory soundproofing actually beats earlier generations: double glazing around the cabin, acoustic headliner, thicker floor pan. But S-class cars come into our studio with one of two complaints: either "I still hear tires on rough asphalt patches," or "there's wind noise from 130 km/h." Both are solvable — not by a marketplace kit, but by proper teardown and material selection. Here's the cost.

W223 specifics: things to watch

  • MBUX modules and sensors. Doors and pillars on W223 carry touch sensors (for ambient lighting), soft-close motors, HEPA filter modules. Disassembly must be done with a diagnostic scanner — otherwise reassembly leaves error codes and dead features.

  • Acoustic headliner. W223 ships with a special acoustic material in the headliner. It's easy to damage during removal. Headliner work happens only at studios with W223 experience and proper headliner stand.

  • Active noise cancellation. S 223 has active noise cancellation through the audio system. Right after soundproofing it may overcorrect briefly — recalibrates over 1–2 weeks.

  • E-Active body control. If your S 223 has air suspension with active body control, suspension calibration may need adjustment after soundproofing. We do this as part of the job, no surcharge.

What else affects the quote

  • Long Wheelbase. LWB / Maybach adds 10 cm between axles — larger floor area, +15,000–20,000 ₽ for floor work.

  • Powertrain (gas/hybrid). Hybrid (S 580 e) adds work on the high-voltage battery niche under the floor — +12,000–18,000 ₽.

  • Laminated glass perimeter. If your trim doesn't have rear double glazing, adding acoustic seals (via dealer or as our add-on package) — +25,000–40,000 ₽.

"Premium" tier on S 223 — 6–8 working days. Electronics work requires care: each connector is photographed before disconnection, post-assembly diagnostic sweep is mandatory. Maybach Quiet — 8–11 days. After work — 2 days of in-studio settling and final test-drive noise measurements.

FAQ

Can I bring an S 223 up to Maybach quietness?

You can get close, but Maybach has additional structural features: thicker glass, acoustic interlayer in doors, different seals. "Maybach Quiet" tier closes 70–80% of the gap. Full parity requires acoustic glass replacement — that's a separate job through the dealer.

Will active noise cancellation break?

It won't. ANC reads actual cabin noise via microphones and works at any background level. Calibration adapts over 1–2 weeks after soundproofing.

Will airbags still deploy correctly?

Yes — material is applied only to metal and plastic carriers, never on pillar areas around airbags. All risk zones on W223 are flagged with factory yellow stickers — we work around them.

Can I just do the floor to kill tire roar?

You can, but the effect is limited: tire noise on S 223 enters through arches and pillars equally with the floor. Minimum sensible set is arches + floor + rockers. Floor only gives –2 to –3 dB, which is barely noticeable subjectively.
