Which film to choose

VLT (visible light transmission) is the main spec. 5-15% — near-black, classic 'premium privacy.' 20-25% — privacy holds, but daytime silhouettes show through (a safety win). 35-50% — light haze, more decor than privacy. Film type matters too: graphite is cheap and dark; metallized blocks GPS/FM (we don't use on premium); carbon is the price-quality balance; ceramic is more expensive but blocks IR (important in summer).

What else you need to know

  • Factory atermal. Premium crossovers (BMW G07, Range Rover L460) often ship with atermal on rear glass. Tinting over it is fine, but visually may be 'too dark.' Order after measuring real VLT of the current glass.

  • Rear defroster lines. Every crossover has them. Film works with defroster fine, install just has to avoid tearing the lines.

  • Antenna in glass. Some crossovers integrate FM/DAB antennas in the rear glass. Metallized film hurts reception — only carbon or ceramic. We test antenna before and after install.

  • Old-film removal. If old tint is on the glass — strip first (4-12k RUB), then apply new. Old graphite sometimes 'fuses' to the glass and needs warm-air treatment, extends time.

Timeline and process

Full rear set — 1 working day (3-5 install hours). Workflow: contact-free glass wash → strip old film if present → glass prep (degrease) → plotter-cut film against electronic templates → install with soap-water slip → squeegee bubbles out → IR-lamp dry → handover. Post-handover: 7 days no window operation, 30 days no high-pressure wash. Manufacturer warranty 5-10 years; studio workmanship 1-2 years.

FAQ

What VLT to pick on an X5 G05 / X7?

15-20% is the sweet spot: privacy is solid, mirrors and reverse cameras work fine at night, rain visibility from the rear-camera display stays acceptable. 5-10% — max privacy but harder rear-view at night. 30-35% — light haze, decor more than privacy.

Carbon or ceramic on a premium crossover?

Carbon — price-quality balance, IR block 30-40%. Ceramic — premium, IR block 80-95%, no electronics interference. For X7 / Cayenne / Q7 we recommend ceramic — these are premium cars and the film should match. 20-40% price uplift over carbon, but a meaningful summer comfort gain — second row stops 'cooking.'

Does tint affect parking cameras?

Cameras mount on the body exterior — film doesn't touch them. Side parking sensors work through the bumper, not the glass. Effect only matters if there's a 'rear-window-mounted camera' (rare on commercial cars) — not relevant on premium crossovers.

How long does rear tint last in St. Petersburg?

7-10 years on premium films (LLumar, 3M, SunTek). Graphite films — 4-6 years (purple color drift in sun). Salt and door-handle splash don't damage quality film. Just don't use abrasive cleaners on the inside glass.

Can you tint glass with built-in privacy shades?

S-Class W223, BMW 7, A8, Range Rover L460 have electric rear-door shades. Tint is fine — film bonds to the glass, shade operates over it. Combined: darker glass + shade for max privacy. Same price as without shades.
